San Francisco area dentist may suggest sleep dentistry
Drs. Sambhav Jain, Shivani Gupta, and Arpana Gupta of San Francisco area’s Center for Implant Dentistry are a team of dentists who believe in providing quality services to new and existing patients in the community. Our practice is focused on patient comfort, which is why we highly suggest sleep dentistry for patients who have severe dental anxieties.
Sleep dentistry is a field of dentistry that is dedicated to ensuring patients are relaxed while they have their dental treatments performed. Many patients, young and old, experience dental anxiety. This is typical, especially for patients who have had traumatic dental experiences in the past. They may associate the dental chair with pain and discomfort. We want to ensure that patients have a chance to experience a positive dental appointment, especially if they have extensive work that will be done with their smile when they visit. This is why Drs. Sambhav Jain, Shivani Gupta, and Arpana Gupta provide sleep dentistry.
The primary method of sedation used in our facility is oral conscious sedation. Oral conscious sedation is a type of sedation that is administered with medication approximately one hour before a patient’s visit. Patients cannot drive under the influence of this medication so must arrange transportation to and from their appointment. When they arrive, they will be awake and coherent. They can answer questions and follow instructions with ease. Some patients, however, may be so relaxed that they fall asleep during their time in the dental chair. This allows the dentist to complete treatment quickly and easily. Patients who are under oral conscious sedation are taken home to rest after their procedure and will wake up rested with their services completed.
Oral conscious sedation is just one method of sleep dentistry available in our practice. We also offer IV sedation, but this is often reserved for our more anxious patients. Drs. Sambhav Jain, Shivani Gupta, and Arpana Gupta of the Center for Implant Dentistry in San Francisco are dedicated to helping patients choose the method of sedation appropriate for them. If you live in the community and are ready to have dental work done without the anxiety, now is a great time to ask about sleep dentistry for your next appointment.
